HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 c371W
Major Beamish

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many acres of productive woodland in the British zone of Germany have been felled since VE-Day; what percentage this represents of the whole area; and what acreage of the felled area has been replanted or regenerated naturally, or will be replanted or regenerated during the current season.

Mr. J. Hynd

One hundred and sixty thousand acres, representing 3.1 per cent. of the total area, have been felled. Seventy-six thousand acres have been replanted or will be replanted during the current season. It is impossible to give any figures for natural regeneration because this method normally requires many years to complete.
