HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 cc353-4W
74. Mr. S. Silverman

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why he has called upon Dr. Sochy, a Stateless refugee resident in this country since 1938, whose name is on the Ministry of Labour's Central Register of Aliens with special qualifications and who was certified as a refugee from Nazi oppression, together with his wife, his child and his aged refugee mother, to leave this country by 25th April.

Mr. Ede

This man came to this country in 1938 as a business visitor, but was allowed to remain as a refugee pending the completion of his arrangements for emigration. The conditions on which he and his wife and his mother were last given leave to land have been varied from time to time and at present expire on 25th April. He has, however, recently informed me that they hope to emigrate by the end of this year, and their landing conditions will be varied to enable them to remain until then.
