HC Deb 03 April 1947 vol 435 c340W
6. Lieut.-Colonel Corbett

asked the President of the Board of Trade what percentage of camera films and plates are now available to the public or are sold for export compared to 1939; and when he expects an increased supply to be available to home users.

Sir S. Cripps

No separate figures for films and plates are available but, of the total supplies of sensitised photographic materials other than to Government order, some 35 per cent. in value at prewar prices were exported last year as compared with 12 per cent. in 1939. Production now is just under half of what it was before the war but there is an increased demand for industrial and medical purposes. I hope that supplies for the private user will progressively improve.
