Mr. Baker Whiteasked the President of the Board of Trade if he has considered a petition to the hon. Member for Canterbury, of which a copy has been sent to him, signed by 58 expectant mothers and drawing attention to their inability to purchase supplies of baby wool in the town; and if he will take action to relieve this shortage.
§ Sir S. CrippsSupplies of baby wool are short generally due to shortage of labour and fuel in the wool industry, but I am not aware that the Whitstable and Canterbury district is less well supplied than other areas. In view, however, of the petition sent to me by the hon. Member, I am asking my regional distribution officer to make inquiries.
