HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c302W
22. Major McCallum

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation if B.E.A.C. have yet received delivery of the three Zikorski helicopter machines or when delivery may be expected.

Mr. Lindgren

Delivery of the three Sikorsky S.51 helicopters on order for the British European Airways Corporation is not expected for sonic months but should be completed by the end of the year.

25. Major McCallum

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation if one of the three Zikorski helicopter machines on order for B.E.A.C. will be utilised for experimental flying with this type of machine on Scottish internal air routes to the islands on the west and north coasts of Scotland.

Mr. Lindgren

The machines have to be assembled after importation at an aircraft factory in Yeovil and it is necessary that the initial operating experience should he obtained near the factory. The British European Airways Corporation are fully alive to the importance of helicopter development for the west and north of Scotland, but it is only after the initial experience has established the safe operational capabilities of this type of aircraft that plans for operations on specific routes can be made.
