HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c338W
Mr. Edward Davies

asked the Minister of Works why, in view of the need for the maximum production of bricks, only 21 brickworks out of 31 are working at at present time.

Mr. Key

I assume my hon. Friend is referring to North Staffordshire. Six of the ten brickworks there which are not producing bricks are manufacturing other needed products, mainly roofing tiles; two others are being prepared for resumption of production, and the remaining two are derelict.
