HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 c141W
78. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Health how many plants are producing streptomycin; and what is today's estimated production in Britain.

Mr. Bevan

I understand from my right hon. Friend the Minister of Supply that at the moment two plants are producing streptomycin on a very small scale in this country, but none is yet available for clinical trials. I should take this opportunity to explain that until those trials have been completed it will not be possible to assess the usefulness of the drug.
