§ Lieut.-Colonel Sharpasked the Minister of Health to what extent the pollution of the atmosphere caused by soot and smoke 145W has been abated during recent years; and what action he is taking to ensure that the housing proposals of local authorities make the fullest contribution towards future smoke abatement.
§ Mr. BevanI understand from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, who have for some time carried on investigations into atmospheric pollution, that they have not sufficient evidence to show that there has been any significant change over the country as a whole during recent years in regard to atmospheric pollution caused by soot and smoke. On the second part of the Question I would invite my hon. and gallant Friend's attention to Circular 112/46 issued to local authorities last June, a copy of which I am sending to him.
