asked the Minister of National Insurance if he will give the number of families at present in receipt of family allowances and the average amount received by way of family allowances.

Family allowances have been granted, and the books have been issued in rather more than 2,280,000 cases. The average amount payable in respect of each award is about 8s. a week.

asked the Minister of National Insurance the percentages of families with less than two children and of families with two children.

Of the number of families containing children of the ages qualifying for family allowances, it is estimated that 53 per cent. have only one child and 28 per cent. two children of eligible age.
