HC Deb 31 October 1946 vol 428 cc127-8W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the policy of His Majesty's Government with regard to the compensation of British traders, merchants, brokers and their staffs who are put out of business or suffer loss because of bulk purchases of food or goods by the Government.

Mr. Dalton

The policy both of the Conservative and the Coalition Governments during the war was that claims to compensation for loss of business due to bulk purchasing by the Government could not be entertained. There has been no change in this policy since the last election.
