HC Deb 30 October 1946 vol 428 c98W
Mr. McKie

asked the Minister of Food if he will now consider setting up a food sub-office at Kirkcudbright, Scotland.

Mr. Strachey

To open a sub-office it would be necessary to transfer trained staff, of whom there is a serious shortage, from the main food office. It is not often essential for a personal call to be made at a food office, and many transactions can be carried out satisfactorily by post. I am sorry that I am unable, in the circumstances, to arrange for a sub-office to be opened in Kirkcudbright.
