HC Deb 30 October 1946 vol 428 cc114-5W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General for what reasons the late postal delivery in the provinces has been cancelled on Saturday afternoons since the summer of this year; whether he is aware that the withdrawal of this delivery is of serious inconvenience to business and professional men and Members of Parliament; and if he will arrange for the restoration of this delivery, even if it entails the provision of additional postal force.

Mr. Burke

The time of the final delivery on Saturday afternoons throughout the country, London excepted, has been advanced in order to afford as many delivery postmen as possible a free afternoon on that day; the time of the final delivery is so adjusted as to avoid undue delay to correspondence for delivery. My noble Friend is satisfied that this rearrangement has widespread public support and that there is no general demand for its withdrawal such as the restoration of the final delivery would involve.
