HC Deb 29 October 1946 vol 428 cc79-80W
82. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for War if the necessity of enabling British Servicemen and ex-Servicemen to return to Germany to marry German women and of securing financial support from British soldiers to German women who are the mothers of their children will now be reconsidered.

Mr. Bellenger

Service personnel cannot at present be allowed to go to Germany on leave, but full information has been sent to all commands at home on the procedure governing the admission of foreign women to the U.K. for the purpose of marriage. Ex-Service personnel who wish to go to Germany are dealt with like other civilians. As my hon. Friend has previously been informed, the securing of financial assistance from the soldier in these cases would require legislation and is not within my province. I would also refer him to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, on 23rd October, to a Question by the hon. Member for Bucklow (Mr. Shepherd).
