HC Deb 28 October 1946 vol 428 c50W
91. Lieut.-Colonel Sharp

asked the Secretary of State for War why there is such delay in settling the pay accounts of British soldiers who have been attached to the Indian Army; whether British or Indian clerks are responsible for the bad condition of many of these accounts; and what action he is taking to improve the pay accounting and messing arrangements of British soldiers so attached.

Mr. J. Freeman

I am satisfied that everything possible has been and is being done to deal with queries that are still outstanding and with problems arising from continued delay in the arrival from India of information affecting pay entitlement. Perhaps my hon. and gallant Friend would send me particulars of any cases he has in mind. With regard to the question of messing, perhaps my hon. and gallant Friend would be good enough to furnish details of any particular matters he has in mind to my hon. and learned Friend the Under-Secretary of State for India who will have them investigated.
