HC Deb 24 October 1946 vol 428 c6W
59. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of nickel available in Wales; and whether it will be used in the new coins now being prepared.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

The present rate of production from Clydach is about 10,000 tons a year. We shall certainly use this source of supply for the new coins.

62. Mr. Challen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an assurance that the proposed cupro-nickel shillings will be of a size, shape and weight suitable for use in slot gas-meters.

Mr. Glenvil Hall

Yes, Sir.
