HC Deb 24 October 1946 vol 428 cc4-5W
55. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Labour whether employers are free to dismiss trainees from disablement training centres as soon as they have completed 12 months' work.

Mr. Isaacs

I assume that the hon. Member has in mind the arrangement whereby employers, who enter into an agreement with my Department to provide training for disabled persons whom they propose to employ, undertake to keep them in their employment for at least one year after the training has been completed. Thereafter disabled ex-trainees are in the same position as other disabled employees in regard to dismissal, that is to say, the employer cannot dismiss them without reasonable cause if by so doing he would cease to satisfy his quota obligation under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act.
