HC Deb 23 October 1946 vol 427 cc361-2W
14. Squadron-Leader Kinghorn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will indicate the nature and value of aid given to the Greek Government by this country since the entry of Greece into the late war as our Ally.

Mr. Bevin

For the assistance given by His Majesty's Government to the Greek Government under mutual aid, I would refer my hon. Friend to the White Paper (Cmd. 6931) issued last week showing the value and scope of mutual aid by the United Kingdom to her various Allies. For the arrangements covering assistance in the maintenance of the Greek Armed Forces after the cessation of mutual aid, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Coventry (Mr. Edelman) on 14th October. Other financial assistance given to the Greek Government during this period is covered in the financial and economic agreement between His Majesty's Government and the Greek Government of 24th July winch was published as a White Paper (Cmd. 6733). These are the main fields in which we have given assistance measurable in terms of £ s. d., apart, of course, from relief supplies provided under international arrangement to which His Majesty's Government have subscribed.
