§ Mr. Strachey136,384 tons of homegrown barley were exported from the United Kingdom to various European countries in the year ended 31st July, 1946. Of this total over 35,000 tons were sent to Eire for conversion into beer for consumption in the U.K.; about 22,000 tons were sold to N.A.A.F.I. for the production of beer for overseas services consumption; the balance of 79,000 tons was shipped to the British zone of Germany for civilian use as bread grain.
