§ 69. Major Legge-Bourkeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the heavy Purchase Tax on church organs is preventing country churches replacing worn-out instruments; and if he will consider exempting such instruments used solely for religious purposes from this tax.
§ Mr. DaltonI would remind the hon. and gallant Member that the Purchase Tax on organs was reduced from 100 per cent. to 33⅓ per cent. in the last Finance Act. I cannot now anticipate my next Budget Statement.
