HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 cc301-2W
122. Mr. Piratin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the Labour Attaché at the British Embassy in Athens, with a special adviser recently flown there from Rome, is, endeavouring to persuade the legal Greek Confederation of Labour to reach a compromise with the State-appointed executive; and whether he will make a statement with regard to the policy of His Majesty's Government in this matter.

Mr. McNeil

As my right hon. Friend informed the House on 16th October, the Greek Government asked His Majesty's Government for their advice concerning Greek trades union matters and British representatives have, of course, been in contact with the leaders of the Greek trades union movement. The Greek Government are still considering His Majesty's Government's advice and I am not at present prepared to make any further statement on the subject.
