HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 cc285-6W
Mr. Younger

asked the Minister of Agriculture what progress has been made in implementing the recommendations of the International Overfishing Conference; whether the proposed standing advisory committee has begun its work and when it is expected to make proposals.

Mr. T. Williams

The Convention which was signed at the conclusion of the International Overfishing Conference in April last has been ratified by His Majesty's Government and the Government of Sweden, but the ratification of other parties is necessary before the Convention can be put into force. Most of the countries concerned have now appointed their delegates to the standing advisory committee, the constitution of which was recommended in the Final Act of the Conference, and it is hoped to convene a meeting of this committee within the next three months.
