§ 102. Mr. J. Morrisonasked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he will give an estimate of the proportion of present parcel post business that is registered; whether this proportion shows a marked increase over registrations, even in wartime and in prewar years; what annual net revenue is obtained from this registration; and whether he will reduce the 319W ordinary parcel postage rate to compensate for the increasing popularity and necessity for registration.
§ Mr. BurkeAt present about 19 per cent. of inland parcels are registered, a slight drop from the highest wartime figure of 21 per cent. For the three years prior to the war registered parcels numbered 1½ per cent. of the total inland parcel traffic. I regret there is no net revenue available from registration fees for the purpose the hon. Member has in mind; on the contrary, it is estimated that these fees do not cover the cost of the special services rendered.
