§ 159. Mr. Stephenasked the Minister of Works what percentage of labour in the building industry is engaged in the housing programme, repairs of war-damaged houses, factories and cinemas or other luxury buildings, respectively.
§ Mr. TomlinsonIt is estimated that in the Building and Civil Engineering Industries in Great Britain at the end of September, 1946, 36 per cent. of the male operatives aged 16 and over were engaged on new housing (including site preparation, conversions and adaptations), 16 per cent. on war damage repairs to houses and flats some of which were unfit for occupation, and 9 per cent. on factories, including both new construction and maintenance. The remainder were engaged on other work, including priority construction and repair and maintenance of houses and industrial buildings.
