HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 c167W
133. Dr. Stross

asked the Minister of Education how many nursery school teachers are being trained at present; and how many newly trained teachers of this type qualified during 1946.

Miss Wilkinson

Most teachers who intend to take up work in nursery schools follow courses of training preparing them for work either in nursery schools, or in schools for infants. About 500 students complete courses of this type in the normal training colleges each year. In addition, about 100 older students in emergency colleges are taking similar courses or courses preparing specifically for nursery school work and about 40 students in emergency colleges have completed such courses in 1946.
