HC Deb 21 November 1946 vol 430 c163W
126. Mr. Amory

asked the Minister of Education whether she will ensure that all picture galleries, museums and exhibitions for which her Department is responsible remain open during the evenings so that the public shall have as wide a choice of cultural amenities as possible.

Miss Wilkinson

The hon. Member presumably refers to the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Science Museum. Evening opening was tried before the war, but the attendance proved too small to warrant its continuance. As an experiment, however, arrangements have been made to keep open as many as possible of the Victoria and Albert Museum galleries until 10 p.m. on week-days.
