Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what amount of the electrical equipment and duplicate machinery now standing in docks in South Wales, which was stored for use in emergencies in case of bombing or fire, has been sold abroad; and how it is proposed to dispose of the remainder.
§ Mr. ShinwellThis plant is part of a reserve pool which was built up for war emergencies. Much of it was unsuitable for regular use as plant of normal design. It is now being sold. Some of it has been bought by undertakings in this country, some by foreign countries and some by U.N.R.R.A. The plant which is now lying in docks in South Wales has been sold to U.N.R.R.A. No plant is being sold abroad which could be used to relieve the shortage of generating plant in this country.
