§ 34. Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied that the support by both the Board of Trade and the Ministry of Supply of an application for deferment of an apprentice in a highly-skilled occupation on the grounds of the national importance of his work is of sufficient importance to warrant such deferment; and whether he will give favourable reconsideration of the application made in relation to Peter Harbot, of Leicester, by the hon. Member for Leicester, West.
§ Mr. IsaacsAs regards the first part of the Question, the final decision must rest with the Ministry of Labour. I gave the most careful consideration to this application in the light of all the representations made and reached the conclusion that the retention of this young man of 20 years of age in civilian life, at the expense of delaying the release of someone else in the Forces, could not be justified. I have reviewed the matter and reached the same conclusion.
