79. Mr. Cluse

asked the Minister of Food whether he will make an order, operative as soon as possible, to be in force before Christmas, that the retail price of Scotch whisky shall not be in excess of that fixed by the Scotch Distillers' Association, 25s. 9d. per bottle, and that for Martell's Brandy not to exceed the retail price advertised by the importers. 37s. 6d. per bottle and 19s. 6d. per half bottle; that the prices so fixed, together with other Food Ministry prices for Ports and other wines shall be exhibited in a prominent position, in bold type, in all establishments holding Inland Revenue licences to retail wines and spirits for consumption off the premises; and forward copies of the order to all wholesale's, particularly to the firms controlling tied houses for the sale of intoxicating liquors.

I should not be prepared to make an order on the lines suggested by my hon. Friend, which would present many enforcement difficulties. I am, however, interested in his suggestion that price lists should be displayed in retail establishments, and will consider its adoption
