HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 c251W
74. Mr. Longden

asked the Minister of Food if he will give an assurance that the sharing-out of school milk during the mid-holidays in Birmingham will be carried out as formerly; and that the renewed practice of several firms being permitted to handle and supply the bulk of the school milk to their own retail customers, to the exclusion of other dealers and the detriment of many other domestic consumers, will cease at once.

Mr. Strachey

Under the present permit system which came into force at the beginning of October, the school milk permits are now restricted to the period of the school term. The school milk will not, therefore, be available to the dairymen during future holidays, but will remain in the general pool and be utilised either to maintain the non-priority allowance or for the manufacture of priority milk products.
