Mr. Leslie

asked the Minister of Health what representations have been made to him by the Tees Fishery Board with respect to the pollution of tidal reaches affecting the River Tees; and what action does he intend taking.

Mr. Bevan

The board have made representations to me about the pollution of the tidal reaches of the River Tees by untreated sewage and have asked that legislation be passed to provide that these reaches should be brought within the scope men, women and juveniles registered as unemployed in Liverpool on the latest available date, giving the trade classification in which they are registered.

pursuant to his reply (OFFICIAL REPORT, 5th November, 1946; Vol. 428, c. 1210), supplied the following figures:

of the Rivers Pollution Prevention Acts. A sub-committee of the Central Advisory Water Committee is considering the extent to which the Acts should be strengthened, including the practicability or otherwise of extending the provisions to tidal waters.
