§ 118. Lieut.-Commander Joynson-Hicksasked the Secretary of State for War why the standard rate of deduction of Income Tax from the pay of a sergeant at 11s. per day is 8d. per day and from the pay of an officer at 11s. per day is only 11s. per month.
§ Mr. BellengerThe difference is accounted for by the fact that the officer is entitled to a deduction of £25 from his taxable income for upkeep of military uniform, whereas the sergeant, having his uniform maintained free is not entitled to this deduction.
