HC Deb 05 November 1946 vol 428 c207W
Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if it is the policy of His Majesty's Government to increase the fiduciary issue indefinitely, or whether an upper limit is envisaged.

Mr. Dalton

There is no legal upper limit, but the amount of the fiduciary issue, from time to time, is carefully considered by the Treasury in consultation with the Bank of England.
