HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c189W
Mr. Byers

asked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the hardship caused by the return to military service of 14401474 Lance-Corporal L. F. Saxton, R.A.C.; and whether, in view of his previous service and the fact that he has been regraded B 7 as a result of sustaining wounds at Caen, he will now be released from military service to take over his father's business, in view of the bad health of his parent, who has, himself, an excellent record of service to the community from the Boer War onwards.

Mr. Bellenger

Corporal Saxton has already been given 24 weeks' compassionate release to allow him to make arrangements for the family business. I have considered his case sympathetically, but I would not be justified, in view of his youth and his high age and service group, in granting him indefinite release.
