HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c165W
7. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will prohibit the importation of ostrich feathers into this country, in view of the fact that feathers are completely plucked from the birds at six months of age and again every year, thus involving great cruelty, and are used in this country merely for ornament.

Mr. Marquand

No, Sir. As regards the suggestion that this trade involves cruelty, I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to the evidence given before the Select Committee of the House of Lords on the Importation of Plumage (Prohibition) Bill, 1908.
