HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 cc173-4W
85. Mr. N. Macpherson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many awards have been made to people in enemy-occupied countries for bravery in connection with sheltering British airmen or helping them to escape; and how many British airmen have reported that they were sheltered or enabled to escape by friends in enemy-occupied countries during the war.

Mr. Mayhew

As the hon. and gallant Member will appreciate other British subjects besides airmen have been sheltered in enemy-occupied countries. For this reason the figure asked for could only be obtained with an expenditure of time and trouble that would not be justified. For a reply to the second part of the Question I must refer the hon. and gallant Member to the Secretary of State for Air.
