HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 c187W
119. Mr. Byers

asked the Minister of Labour how many workers on the supplementary register of the Port of London Registration Committee have been dismissed in the past three months by the National Dock Labour Corporation, Limited; for what reasons they have been dismissed; and whether, in view of the amount of work available and the need for accelerating timber supplies, he is satisfied that such dismissals are justified.

Mr. Ness Edwards

During the period from 6th August to 31st October, 213 men on the Supplementary Register of the Port of London have been dismissed on grounds of redundancy; in addition five such men were dismissed for disciplinary reasons and seven for various other reasons. I am advised that these dismissals have not caused delay in the discharge of cargoes.
