Mr. Douglas Marshallasked the Minister of Food if he is aware that sugar is being left to rot in the West Indies owing to lack of shipping; and if he will give an assurance that on no occasion has permission been refused by him to any of His Majesty's ships homeward bound to carry cargo of this nature when space was available.
§ Mr. StracheyI can most certainly give the assurance asked for by the hon. Member. I have no knowledge of any sugar left to rot in the West Indies or, in fact, in any other part of the world from which we draw supplies.
