asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many cases in the last six months of terrorism in Palestine have resulted in the murder of British troops or police; how many terrorists have been brought to trial; and what punishments were inflicted in each case.

There have been six incidents of terrorism during the past six months resulting in the murder of British troops or police. The total number killed was 16 British soldiers, including five Africans and five British police.

As regards the second and third parts of the Question, 10 persons have been brought to trial. Two were acquitted and eight were sentenced to the following terms of imprisonment: 1 to 12 years, 2 to 7 years, 1 to 5 years, 1 to 4 years, 1 to 3 years, 1 to 6 months, one case was a technical offence only. A further 71 persons are awaiting trial in connection with these terrorist incidents.
