Mr. De la Bèreasked the Minister of Food whether he will take steps to curtail the importation of luxuries, such as strawberries and asparagus from Holland and France, in order to save the foreign currencies for necessities; and why the importation of 1,000 tons of radishes between 7th March and 30th July was permitted.
§ Mr. StracheyThese foodstuffs help to provide greater variety in our diet and I hope to get more of them. I am satisfied that the Foreign Exchange involved could not at the moment be spent to greater advantage in other ways.
