HL Deb 23 May 1946 vol 141 c492WA
THE EARL OF CORK AND ORRERY

asked His Majesty's Government whether ex-Servicemen whose homes are in Eire are allowed to join the City of London, and the Metropolitan Police Forces, and if so whether there are any special conditions attached to their enlistment.

LORD WALKDEN

Ex-Servicemen whose homes are in Eire are allowed to join the Metropolitan police force, subject to the fulfilment of the standard requirements, and no special conditions are attached. Three such men are now in training at the Metropolitan police recruits' training school.

The Home Secretary understands from the Commissioner of Police for the City of London that the practice in the City of London police force is similar.

House adjourned at twenty minutes before eight o'clock.
