HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc55-6W
103. Mr. F. Anderson

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that men offered for employment in the coalmining industry, who have previously been employed as iron ore miners, are required to be submitted for an X-ray examination, which entails a cost of at least £5 which has to be paid by the applicant and not by the colliery company; and if he is prepared to abolish this practice of the man paying the cost.of such X-ray examination.

Mr. Shinwell

I am informed that iron ore miners seeking employment at coal mines in Cumberland may, in future, be required to undergo an X-ray examination under arrangements made privately by the owners. The cost of the examination, so I am advised, will be borne by the owners and not by the men themselves.
