HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c39W
64. Mr. Piratin

asked the Secretary of State for War how many Japanese have now been evacuated from Indonesia; how many remain; and when the evacuation will be completed,

Mr. Bellenger

Eighty-eight thousand, nine hundred and thirty-nine Japanese have now been evacuated from the Netherlands East Indies. Of these, 57,794 were evacuated from Java and Sumatra alone. A total of 224,984 Japanese remain, including 82,355 in Java and Sumatra. These figures include civilians, I cannot yet say by what date the evacuation of all these Japanese will be completed.
