HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc63-4W
130. Mr. Turton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the evacuation of military installations from Egypt has begun: and if he will give an assurance that troops will not be evacuated from the Canal zone until an agreement has been reached providing for the adequate defence of the Suez Canal.

Mr. McNeil

The evacuation from Egypt of military installations which have be- come surplus to requirements owing to the termination of hostilities has been in progress for some considerable period. In reply to the second part of the Question I would refer the hon. Member to the statements made by the Prime Minister and the Lord President of the Council in the course of Debate on 7th May, to which I have nothing to add.
