HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc36-7W
71. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will give the facts of the cause of the death of Corporal Bob Wilmot, in Athens, on 30th April, 1946; and whether the perpetrators have been brought to justice.

Mr. Bellenger

Corporal Wilmot was found shot dead on the floor of his room at approximately 4.20 p.m. on 3oth April.

He was last seen alive about 20 minutes previously. Death was caused by a revolver shot in the head, which in the opinion of the medical authorities was fired from a revolver touching or practically touching his forehead. A revolver with an empty cartridge case was found beside the body. The circumstances of Corporal Wilmot's death were fully investigated by the British military authorities in Athens and after careful consideration of the results of these investigations the Commander of the British land forces in Greece is of the opinion that Corporal Wilmot died as a result of a self-inflicted wound.
