§ 11. Mr. S. Silvermanasked the Secretary of State for War how long it is proposed to continue billeting, soldiers in this country on private citizens; and whether he is aware that in the boroughs of Nelson and Colne, there are cases in which citizens have discharged this obligation for several years.
§ Mr. LawsonI regret that it has been necessary to billet small numbers of soldiers in private houses in Nelson and Colne over a considerable period. This is due to the lack of any other suitable living accommodation, but I have given instructions that further efforts should he made to find alternative accommodation.
