HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 c35W
11. Mr. S. Silverman

asked the Secretary of State for War how long it is proposed to continue billeting, soldiers in this country on private citizens; and whether he is aware that in the boroughs of Nelson and Colne, there are cases in which citizens have discharged this obligation for several years.

Mr. Lawson

I regret that it has been necessary to billet small numbers of soldiers in private houses in Nelson and Colne over a considerable period. This is due to the lack of any other suitable living accommodation, but I have given instructions that further efforts should he made to find alternative accommodation.
