HC Deb 20 May 1946 vol 423 c14W
98. Mr. Skeffington"-Lodge

asked the President of the Board of Trade to what extent the export of antiques is being used as part of the drive to obtain dollar currency; and whether he will give any figures available for the last convenient period.

Mr. Marquand

Total exports to the United States of America of works of art, paintings and curios in the six months ended March, 1946, amounted to £735,000. Antiques, which may be of many different categories, are not recorded separately; the value quoted would include goods other than antiques.
