HC Deb 16 May 1946 vol 422 c267W
21. Mr. Bower

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the shortage of hospital and institutional accommodation for aged and infirm persons who cannot look after themselves and have no one to look after them; and if he will consider taking over camp reception stations and anti-aircraft gun sites, which are suitably equipped, and using them for this purpose.

Mr. Bevan:

I am aware that there is a shortage of accommodation available for aged and infirm persons, but the problem is primarily one of nursing and domestic staffing rather than of actual bed accommodation. The taking over of Service installations would not, therefore, help.
