HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 cc254-5W
141. Mr. Willis

asked the Minister of National Insurance the position of artificer apprentices under the existing health and employment insurance schemes; and whether any change is contemplated when the National Insurance Bill becomes operative.

Mr. Lindgren:

Artificer apprentices in the Royal Navy are treated in the same way as other naval ratings under the present health and unemployment schemes; no deductions are made from their pay in respect of these schemes. but on discharge from the Navy they are treated as if they had been insured throughout service. Under the National Insurance Bill naval ratings will be insured persons like all other persons in this country. The detailed conditions governing their contributions and benefits will be dealt with in Regulations to be made under powers contained in the Bill.
