HC Deb 15 May 1946 vol 422 c238W
102. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware of the urgency of settling the final disposal of the displaced persons in the camps in Europe; and whether, in order that they may reach their new homes before the winter, he will bring the matter for settlement at the forthcoming meeting of the Economic and Social Council of U.N.O.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker:

Yes, Sir. I am aware of the importance and urgency of the problem of the displaced persons and other refugees in Europe today. At its second session, which begins next week, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations will consider a report on the matter drawn up by a Committee of which my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State has been the Chairman. His Majesty's Government have made, and will continue to make, every possible effort to ensure that the most effective measures shall be taken, for which agreement can be secured.
