HC Deb 14 May 1946 vol 422 c183W
126. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the thickness of the hard rock which will have to be blasted during the opencast coal working near the Wentworth Woodhouse mansion; and how far is the nearest point of this rock from the mansion.

Mr. Shinwell:

The borings disclose that the rock overburden of the site in close proximity to the mansion varies between 20 feet to 40 feet in thickness according to the dip of the seam, and that it persists throughout the whole of the working area. The nearest point at which the workings will approach the mansion is 450 feet.
